BEFORE THE FIRST ESTIMATE
Start with the rooms, not the finishes.
A good first conversation does not require a complete design package. Walk through the spaces involved and note what feels inconvenient: limited pantry space, a tub you rarely use, damaged flooring, poorly placed lighting, or finishes that no longer match. Describe what should stay, as well as what you want to change.
Decide which priorities are essential and which are flexible. For example, keeping plumbing fixtures in their existing locations is a different conversation from moving them; replacing cabinets and countertops is different from changing walls and circulation paths. Those decisions shape the scope, coordination needs, and preliminary budget discussion.
